Wittgensteiner Schieferpfad

Follow the story through the forest

While hiking on the Wittgensteiner Schieferpfad (Wittgensteiner slate path), the bat marking shows you the way. One thing that makes this trail very special: It was the first premium hiking path of our region. Here you will meet imposing cliffs, majestic old trees, clear waters and historical traces of the former slate mining.

Here the slate path passes through four nature reserves and numerous habitats. Experience wilderness at its best. Here nature shows all its liberty and unfolds its full beauty. On the more than 14 kilometres long loop trail you will meet fascinating forest surroundings, stunning rock formations, great views, enchanted paths, huge slate mounds and quarries. The landscape is set in a unique scenery.

Hikers should plan around five hours for this tour. Good physical condition is required, as well as sturdy shoes and backpack with food and plenty of drinks.

Location/starting point:

Start and end point is the parking lot at the Eder, 200 metres below the Slate mine Schieferschaubergwerk Raumland.
