Unique art trail

On your journey through the Rothaarkamm you will encounter art in front of a special scenery. The WaldSkulpturenWeg (ForestsculptureWay) Wittgenstein – Sauerland connects the towns Bad Berleburg and Schmallenberg over a distance of 23 kilometres and offers a large scale of culture in nature. In a wonderful forest scenery eleven renowned artists have created a unique art trail.

All the artworks impress in their diversity. At the beginning of the around six hour long trail the golden egg (Goldenes Ei) greets you high above Bad Berleburg and invites you to find the answer to the question who was there first, the chicken or the egg? “The Green Station” (Die Grünstation) are deeply rooted trees, which grow through the roof of a house into the sky. A few metres further spreads “The Falcon”, made of mud and planted with local flowers, it's “wings”, before the sculpture “Stone-Age-Man” (Stein-Zeit-Mensch) comes as one with the lonelyness of the forest at Kühhude. The “border” experience “Not an easy game” shows you how the countryside connects the protestant influenced Wittgenstein and the catholic Sauerland but also seperates it through the county border.

In between those two “worlds” of Wittgenstein and Sauerland, “The crook” (“Der Krummstab”) illustrates a highly visible accent, just before the trail directs the hikers to the Village of Schanze. A charming magical place is the “witches circle” (Hexenplatz) which takes you back in time. A staged natural phenomenon awaits you at the sculpture “Blinker II”. With the sculpture “Above the ponds” mystical sounds from Grafschaft greet you as you arrive in the lovely town of Schmallenberg.
