Rothaarsteig

Sights – Scents – Senses

The Rothaarsteig offers a special experience of nature. Sounds, smells and fabulous landscapes make the Rothaarsteig the path for your senses.

In a total of 154 kilometres the Rothaarsteig connects Brilon in the Sauerland region with Dillenburg on the edge of the Westerwald via the Wittgensteiner Land and Sauerland. Supplemented by the valley differences of Hochsauerland and the mountain differences of Hoher Westerwald you can hike a further 65 kilometres. Here, the forest mountain range of Rothaarkamm extends up to 843 metres in altitude. Right in the middle is Bad Berleburg, here is an ideal starting point for your trip.

Along the way you will find new historical, cultural or natural history places. Specially designed Rothaarsteig wooden loungers let you experience the landscape in a particularly relaxing way. A variety of small watersources and impressive views accompany you on your journey. Make sure to stop over in the adventure station “Forest ecosystem” (Ökosystem Wald) in Kühhude with its fantastic 40 metres long suspension Amazon style bridge.

The Rothaarsteig has its own trademark. A white R on a red background always directs you onto the right way. The official access routes are marked with an R on yellow background as well as own signs of the Rothaarsteig.

The maps Wittgenstein with a booklet and trail maps of Bad Berleburg and many other hiking trails are available at the Tourist-Information office (Goetheplatz 3, Bad Berleburg).
