The forest is a fascinating place – refreshingly beautiful and peaceful and at the same time adventurous and mystical. In our natural paradise a forest walk can be quite a “wild” thing, here you can not only meet foxes and hares but also wild boar and wisents. Speaking of Wisent, the European bison lives since 2013 in the wild here in Wittgenstein and is a unique species protection project in Western Europe. Also spectacular is the stag rutting, which is an impressive experience for nature lovers in Bad Berleburg in the autumn.
For a lot of movement and a great natural experience you will find varied hiking trails in the area. As the best-known “celebrity” the Rothaarsteig leads as a “way of the senses” to Bad Berleburg. With the WaldSkulpturenWeg (ForestSculptureWay), the Via Adrina, the Wittgensteiner Schieferpfad (Wittgensteiner slate path) und dem Wisent path there is an impressive density of excellent hiking trails. An exciting discovery trip for all activists!
